We recently participated in an RFSL training session titled “Basics of Media Communication.” During the training, we learned how to effectively engage with the media and convey important human rights issues to a wider audience. We examined in detail how to work with news hooks and how to shape them so that they are interesting and relevant to journalists. We paid special attention to finding common ground with the media and structuring our communication so that important human rights issues are conveyed loudly and persuasively. A separate session was dedicated to content creation: how to adapt the same information for different formats and platforms. In addition, attention was given to creating human rights video content for YouTube, specifically how to combine complex topics with a format that is engaging and has high levels of accessibility for the audience. Another important topic was also Crisis communication was the focus. We discussed how to act in challenging situations where it is necessary to respond quickly and communicate responsibly, even under pressure or in the face of uncertainty. Thank you to our trainers Anna Khaetska, Iryna Dedusheva, Anya More, and Anna Redko for their valuable insights and hands-on training. Thank you to RFSL for this opportunity and support. We’ll keep working to make the voice of human rights heard even louder.
