The NGO “Resistance” is launching a new project called TRANSFORM, aimed at advancing trans-inclusive medicine in Ukraine, supporting trans people, and strengthening trans solidarity.
High-quality medical care is a fundamental right of every person. At the same time, trans people continue to encounter healthcare professionals who lack sufficient knowledge about the needs of trans people and the provision of trans-inclusive services. At TRANSFORM, we combine research on the community’s experiences, training for medical and social professionals, psychological support, and advocacy for systemic change.
The project will consist of three phases:
- A Study of Trans People’s Experiences. We will compile a body of evidence and conduct 50 interviews with trans people about their experiences accessing medical care and related services.
- Analysis and Training for Professionals. We will prepare a comprehensive analytical report, conduct training for medical and social professionals, and develop a draft professional guide for the development of trans-inclusive services in Ukraine.
- Dialogue and Systemic Change. We will facilitate a dialogue with the community, healthcare providers, and representatives of government agencies, and lay the groundwork for recommendations on the implementation of ICD-11 and systemic changes.
Throughout the project, we will also provide free psychological counseling sessions and hold regular support groups for trans people, their partners, and families.
Another focus of TRANSFORM will be increasing the visibility of trans people in society and expanding the circle of allies.
The TRANSFORM project is being implemented with the support of ILGA-Europe.
