The team from the NGO “Resistance,” together with colleagues from the NGO “Emancipation,” attended two international human rights events in Ljubljana focused on the rights of trans people and LGBTQ+ individuals, international cooperation, and advocacy.

One of these events was the 10th anniversary TGEU Council, held under the slogan “Transphoria: collectively resist and celebrate,” which brought together trans activists from Europe and Central Asia.

Over the course of several days, participants discussed amplifying the voice of the trans community, protecting against discrimination, countering anti-trans legislation, and creating safe spaces. The program also focused on the situation in Ukraine, the experiences of the Ukrainian trans community amid the war, and the importance of international solidarity and support for Ukraine.

Prior to the TGEU Council meeting, our team also participated in an intensive Council of Europe training session on strategic litigation. The training focused on the effective filing of cases with the European Court on Human Rights, including procedural aspects, evidence gathering, and the application of interim measures.

We also focused specifically on how to use strategic litigation as a tool for systemic change and the protection of the rights of the LGBTQ+ community at the national level.

Participating in these two events gave us the opportunity to gain new knowledge and advocacy tools, share experiences with colleagues, and strengthen international partnerships.

We would like to thank TGEU, the Council of Europe, and RFSL for the opportunity to learn, represent the Ukrainian community on the international stage, and strengthen international solidarity with Ukraine.
