In June, the team from the NGO “Resistance” took part in a panel discussion at West Pride in Sweden, where they spoke about the realities of life for trans people and the work of trans activists in Ukraine during a full-scale war.
During the discussion, we emphasized that the fight for the equality of LGBTQ+ people is an integral part of Ukraine’s democratic and European path.
A separate segment was dedicated to Trans Forum 2026—an event that brought together the Ukrainian trans community to discuss pressing issues, offer mutual support, and engage in advocacy for the rights of trans people. Holding the Forum during the war was crucial for maintaining the community’s visibility and amplifying its voice.
They also discussed the importance of international cooperation. Despite the strong mutual support within the Ukrainian trans community, support for grassroots initiatives and joint advocacy efforts with international partners remain crucial for systemic change.
Participating in West Pride gave us the opportunity to discuss the needs and experiences of the Ukrainian trans community on an international level and to strengthen our collaboration with organizations outside Ukraine.
We would like to thank the Swedish organization RFSL for giving us the opportunity to raise issues that are important to the Ukrainian trans community at the international level.
