Today, our organization also joined the protest against the new Civil Code. Bill No. 15150 will affect all of us. The provision allowing for the annulment of trans people’s marriages poses a direct threat to families and the safety of the trans community. This bill is yet another attempt to erase trans identity.
Salvador Strizh, communications manager for the NGO “Resistance,” emphasized during his speech that such a provision is unacceptable and discriminatory. He stated that the state is effectively forcing trans people to live with a gender marker on their documents that does not correspond to their actual identity, and as a result, they will be subjected to even more humiliation, danger, and systemic discrimination on a daily basis.
Annulling the marriages of trans people does not “protect the family”; on the contrary, it destroys existing families, deprives people of legal protection, and creates even greater vulnerability for those who already face prejudice in society.
We oppose the new Civil Code. Trans people exist, their families exist, and no law has the right to deny this.
